Stop and Talk Podcast: "They Probably Think I'm a Christian"

Well, I’ve done it again. I’ve started another podcast. This one is called “Stop and Talk.” Here’s where you can listen to the premiere episode.

From the Episode Introduction

Hello. My name is Tony Miano. Welcome to the “Stop and Talk” podcast.

I am a member of Grace Fellowship Church—a Reformed Baptist church in Davenport, Iowa. I have been called by my pastors to serve my church as an evangelist. As such, my church sends me to the streets of my community and beyond to represent Jesus Christ and my local church, through the public proclamation of the gospel. That public proclamation occurs in several different ways, including open-air preaching, the distribution of gospel tracts, and what I like to call crosswalking.

I have a 5 ½-foot tall wooden cross with the words “Stop and Talk” written on the crossbeam. With this cross, I stand at various intersections in my community and elsewhere, with the hope that people will stop and talk. I’ve engaged in this kind of ministry for 13 years. During that time, thousands of people have stopped to talk and have subsequently heard the gospel of Jesus Christ.

As you listen to the “Stop and Talk” podcast, the purpose of which is to encourage and equip Christians to engage in evangelism and to bring the gospel to the lost, you will hear some of these conversations—conversations that have taken place, literally and figuratively, at the foot of a cross.

An episode of the “Stop and Talk” podcast might run 10-15 minutes, or it might run an hour. The length of an episode will be determined by the length of the featured conversation and how much I want to talk about it.

In this first episode, you will hear a brief conversation I had recently with two ladies, Sandra and Alicia. Alicia (the driver) pulled into the gas station directly behind where I was standing on the corner of Harrison and Locust. Sandra (the passenger) called me over to their vehicle.

Sandra asked if I was a pastor. And Alicia’s first question, which is a little hard to hear, was to ask if our church does baptisms.

While the ladies were friendly, they seemed a bit hesitant to engage in conversation. It was as if they weren’t sure what to say or ask. So, I used a particular conversational device that I will employ from time to time, in situations like this one.

I hope you enjoy this brief conversation with Sandra and Alicia, and I hope the proclamation of the gospel is encouraging to you.

After the conversation, I’ll be back with some closing thoughts.
